What We Teach at

The Wey Church

Statement of Faith

1. The Bible

We teach that the Bible, made up of 66 books in the Old and New Testaments, is God’s perfect and trustworthy Word. It is divinely inspired, without error, and sufficient for all matters of faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).

For children: The Bible is God’s true book. It tells us everything we need to know about Him and how to live.

2. The Triune God

We teach that there is one God who exists eternally in three Persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19). Each Person is fully God, equal in power, glory, and majesty (John 1:1-3; Acts 5:3-4).

For children: There is only one true God, but He exists in three Persons—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

3. Creation and Providence

We teach that God created all things in six literal days by His spoken Word (Genesis 1:1-31; Exodus 20:11). He continues to sustain and govern His creation according to His sovereign will (Colossians 1:16-17; Hebrews 1:3).

For children: God made everything in six days and still takes care of everything He made.

4. The Fall and Original Sin

We teach that Adam was created from the dust of the ground and that Eve was formed from Adam’s body. Both were made in the image of God—male and female—each with distinct and complimentary roles designed by God for life and the visible church. These roles, along with the reality of male and female as the only two genders, remain unchanged for all of humanity.

As the representative of mankind, Adam disobeyed God, bringing sin and death into the world (Genesis 3:1-19; Romans 5:12, 18-19). Because of this, all people are born sinners and are incapable of saving themselves apart from God’s grace (Ephesians 2:1-3; Jeremiah 17:9).

For children: Adam’s sin made all people sinners, and we need God to save us.

5. The Sovereignty of God in Salvation

We teach that salvation is entirely a work of God’s grace, accomplished through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:28).

Election – God, before the foundation of the world, chose certain people to be saved, not based on their actions but according to His mercy (Ephesians 1:4-5; Romans 9:11-16).

For children: God chose a people to save before He even made the world.

Atonement – Jesus’ death on the cross was a substitutionary sacrifice for His people, fully paying for their sins (John 10:11, 14-15; Ephesians 5:25).

For children: Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for our sins, so we can be forgiven and become part of God’s family.

Regeneration – The Holy Spirit gives new life, enabling sinners to repent and believe in Jesus (John 3:3-8; Titus 3:5).

For children: God changes our hearts so we can love Him and believe in Jesus.

Perseverance – Those whom God saves will never be lost, as He keeps them secure in faith (John 10:27-29; Philippians 1:6).

For children: If God saves you, He will never let you go.

6. The Church

We teach that the church is the body of Christ, composed of all true believers (Ephesians 1:22-23). Local churches exist for worship, teaching, fellowship, and spiritual growth (Acts 2:42).

Church Leadership – Elders are called to lead and shepherd the church (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9).

For children: The church has leaders who help people follow Jesus.

Baptism – Baptism is for believers and is done by immersion as a sign of faith in Christ (Matthew 28:19; Acts 8:38-39).

For children: Getting baptised shows that you are serious about following Jesus.

The Lord’s Supper – A memorial of Christ’s sacrifice, taken by believers to remember His death (1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

For children: We eat bread and drink red wine to remember that Jesus died for us.

Church Discipline – The church must lovingly correct members who persist in sin (Matthew 18:15-20; 1 Corinthians 5:6-7).

For children: The church helps people when they break God’s laws.

7. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

We teach that the Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts for building up the church (Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11). However, the miraculous gifts (such as tongues, prophecy, and healing) were given to the early church as a confirmation of God’s Word and have ceased since the completion of Scripture (1 Corinthians 13:8-10; Hebrews 2:3-4; Hebrews 1:2).

For children: Long ago, God gave miracles to show His message was true, but now we have God’s full message - the Bible - miracles are no longer needed.

8. The Future and Christ’s Return

We teach that Jesus will return to establish His kingdom on earth.

1. The Rapture – Jesus will gather His church before a period of great tribulation (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).

For children: One day, Jesus will take His people to be with Him in paradise.

2. The Great Tribulation – A time of judgment and salvation before Christ’s return (Matthew 24:21-22; Revelation 6-18).

For children: The world will go through a very hard time before Jesus comes back.

3. The Second Coming and Millennial Reign – Jesus will return and rule for a literal 1,000 years (Revelation 19:11-21; 20:1-6).

For children: Jesus will come back as King and rule the world.

4. The Final Judgment and Eternal State – All unbelievers will be judged, and God’s people will live with Him forever in the new heavens and new earth (Revelation 20:11-15; 21-22).

For children: Those who love Jesus will live with Him forever, but those who reject Him will be punished forever.

9. The Great Commission

We teach that Jesus commands us to share the gospel with all nations (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8).

For children: We must tell others about Jesus so they can believe too.

10. The Christian Life

We teach that believers are called to live holy lives, avoiding sin and growing in godliness (Romans 12:1-2; Titus 2:11-14). True faith will be shown through obedience to God (Matthew 7:16-20).

For children: If you love Jesus, you will want to obey Him.

Conclusion

This is what we teach at The Wey Church, with our doctrinal convictions grounded in a literal, grammatical, and historical interpretation of Scripture.

While not every member may agree on every detail, we expect those serving as elders or deacons to fully affirm and uphold these core truths.

We stand firm in the sovereignty of God, the authority of His Word, and the certain, glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:36)
